Jade van de Werhorst is a Calgary-born, self-taught artist living with chronic pain. As part of her pain-management therapy, she was encouraged to explore fine-detail artistry—a suggestion that became a profound creative calling.
Through the ache in her joints, Jade weaves beauty and grace, each stroke a testament to her quiet inner strength, resilience, and mastery. Her work reflects patience, focus, and an intimate dialogue between body and art.
Jade comes from a lineage of proud war veterans, including her grandmother—the first female officer in the Royal Dutch Navy—her grandfather, also of the Royal Dutch Navy, and a great-grandfather who served in the Calcutta Presidency Battalion.
Working across mixed media, Jade’s practice includes pen and ink, paint, digital art, and photography. Her art invites viewers to slow down, look closer, and find strength within subtlety.
